Plur - Case Study

Overview

During my UX design course at Brainstation, we were given 8 weeks to create an interactive prototype focusing on 2 task flows that demonstrates an application of the concepts taught within the course. The Problem Space that I have selected for this was "What are some upcoming music events and how do I find out who's going?"

Objective

Music has the power to bring people together, and attending concerts and festivals with friends can create unforgettable memories. However, coordinating with friends to attend music events can be a hassle, particularly when schedules are busy. The objective for this project is to design a product that provides intuitive and user-friendly experience for user to connect with their friends and keep them in the loop about upcoming music events.

Strategy

After conducting a few interviews on the target users of this product, I have discovered  common pain points, motivations and behaviours. The insight I got from these collected interviews was that users wants to be able to know which are upcoming events that their friends are attending or are interested in attending. This would help the user visualize the amount of interest per event making their event selection easier.

Challenges

A big mistake I made was assuming what I thought users wanted for this app. At first I wanted to create an all encompassing platform that would guide the user from the beginning to end of the journey. Features like in app mapping system and ticket purchasing. After conducting my interviews again with updated questions, I learned that users will always prefer using Google Maps as their mapping tool and more reliable ticket purchasing sources like Ticketmaster and Stubhub. This challenge ultimately helped me make the decision to remove those features and focus on the social community for the product.

The Results

Overall, the final result was been well received by the customer and target users. However, there are still improvements that can be made such as some user flows I'd like to modify. Given the time and purpose of this project I'm fairly happy with the end design prototype.

The main thing I learned from this project was the importance of understanding the and respecting the users perspective instead of preemptively making assumptions. I also learned that it is very helpful to include the users and clients as much as possible in the process.
